DA ROOOOOOLZ

OK so it's time to get some structure to this madness. Here I shall attempt to lay out some of the rules to our hobby challenge. Please feel free to suggest any changes/additions/removals in the comments sections.

1. The ultimate aim of this project is to build and paint a Warhammer Fantasy Battle army which you can both be proud of and play with.
2. To give a sense of purpose to the army collecting/painting we will set target points limits every quarter. Currently this shall be:

15th April (3 months) - Everyone AT LEAST 500 points - painted
15th July   (6 months) - Everyone AT LEAST 1000 points - painted
14th Oct   (9 months) - Everyone AT LEAST 2000 points - painted
18th Jan    (1 Year)    - Everyone that is still around aiming for 3000 points :P

3. To help hit each of those targets an army list should probably be posted everytime the points target is changed, to give a guideline of what you should be building/painting and something to work towards.
4. Each month each participants will SET THEIR OWN TARGETS based on what they think they can do in the coming month. Minimum targets should ten to be at least a minimum one unit or large monster a month, but more or less can be set depending on how time-rich you are during the month.

Right that should be about it. Have I forgotten anything?

I shall start compiling the plan post for the first 3 months this evening, based on what people have posted so far.

  1. I think it might be worth saying that if you have finished your allotment for a period of time, it's fine to move on to other stuff to give you a better chance of completing the later months. Whilst there is an air of competition about the whole thing, the main objective here is to get people painting and using their armies, so shouldn't be discouraged from pursuing more than what is allotted.

    Maybe?

  2. I'd say those targets are a little ambitious. I will certainly struggle with that, I think, especially towards the end. I think I'd just give the 1000 point jumps an extra months... or perhaps even stop at 2000 points. I think the 2000 mark gives one a much more interesting and manageable army and that seems like a far better aim for something like this (the classic 4 Gamers aim for 2000 pts for a reason I think).

If people want to go higher beyond the 1 year - 2000 pts, then yeah, we can look into that then, but otherwise I think it's a recipe for failure!

  5. Although I will add that under the current rules, 3000 point games of Fantasy are far and away the best points value to use. I guess for now just play it by ear and see how we do. I reckon people will be able to get 1000 points painted in 3 months pretty easily to be honest (You can spend 700 points on a general on a monster in many cases if you're feeling super lazy) so I vote we see how we do and assess our goals as time goes on.

  6. at 2000 points we do BATTLEFLEET GOTHIC. lulz.

Don't mind really, those targets look fine actually. But I'm saying this as someone who has a lot of their stuff already though - saying that, a lot of it is badly painted/broken. Marc (who is taking part, but not blogging) might need 500 years though to complete 1 model, unless he goes cold turkey from minecraft.

  7. 3000 points over 12 months amounts to 250 points a month. This isn't much at all. Most characters cost less than this, and a decent sized unit is about that much too. For example, my 30 goblins with full command and fanatics cost about 195 points and I don't think that's counting the cost for shields, and goblins are 3 points each! A 15 man glade guard unit with command comes in at about 204 points and you can even give them a magic banner if you're feeling time-cheap.

  8. Indeed. As I proved with my last post, 500 points is not that much at all really. I mean 500 points for Oly is like 12 models. I'm pretty sure the contents of most Battalions can be made 750-1000 points with the inclusion of a character or two.

Also Fed bear in mind the tale of 4 gamers thing was done over 4 months, not a whole year.....you'd be surprised how much pointage people with accrue over the months.

  9. @Rion - 4 months for the Tale of 4 Gamers because they were being paid to do those pieces, therefore they had the work time specifically allotted for it.

Anyway. Whatever. I'll do your outlandish sizes! Have your blood money!

  10. Maybe we should have work time allotted to our projects.

    Just sayin...

  11. The tale of 4 gamers dudes had the best jobs: "aw man, getting paid to paint my own models, with all the paints in the range, then talk about them for a bit, plus I got them at staff discount? Oh well..."
